Welcome to this week's message from the Tunney-Side-Of-The-Street. You are encouraged to share this with fellow workers, family and friends.
After further review -
Self-evaluation must be difficult; the way people avoid doing it. What's so tough about asking a few questions about yourself or your performance? Did I grow today? Did I pay enough attention to that experience to build understanding?
As an NFL Referee for 31 years I was constantly "evaluated", not just by fans, coaches and players, but, more importantly, by my superiors. The NFL Supervisors in the league office "grade" every official on every call, every play, in every game. How important is their evaluation of my performance? So much so that it determines if I get a playoff assignment - or not! Like the teams, officials want to be "in the playoffs".
We have known for a long time that all action - all action - begins with thought. When the thought becomes negative, often so does the performance. So, here are some things to think about that can help create a positive force in your life. These statements/affirmations can be turned into questions by asking:
Do I? Or am I?:
- Believe in yourself and your abilities.
- Be excited about your job/task.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Set high standards for yourself.
- Take pride in the way you live your life and do your job.
- Accept criticism as a gift.
- Thank people.
- Care for others.
- Be responsible to your boss and co-workers.
- Be a T*E*A*M player.
I often tell the story of a young boy building a sand castle down by the seashore. As he built his castle, a wave came in and washed it out. He scurried around getting more sand to rebuild it, when another wave washed it out. He continued laughing and enjoying his project, even though the "wipeout" happened time and again. As I watched, I thought - wow! What a positive attitude! He was excited about his task (see #2) and he knew, if he started over, he could do it again (see #1).
I am fully persuaded it's your will - which you can turn into "will power".
Will you keep integrity first and foremost in every thing you do?
